Graduate Learning Consultant

James Winter

James (he/him) is an alumni of the Environmental Engineering doctoral program at Stanford. He studied the impact of improved water, sanitation, and hygiene on human health, wealth, and well-being. Much of his research took place abroad, and he has lived and traveled extensively in Zambia and India. During these trips, he wishes he did more tourism, but mainly took photographs of pit latrines and did microbiological experiments in his bedroom. He graduated from Harvard with a degree in Applied Mathematics and spent 3 years in management consulting before graduate school. He became a learning consultant because he saw how the corporate world prepared him for graduate school and wants to pass on those skills – oral presentations, managing your adviser, and time management, to others. He has a passion for time management and goal setting and helped our students plan anything from their weekly goals to their New Year’s Resolutions.

James was a member of the inaugural cohort of Peer Learning Consultants and served from 2018 to 2021
