Undergraduate Junior, Biomedical Computation

Nahome Hagos

Curriculum Designer

Nahome (He/Him) is a 3rd year undergraduate student from Orange, New Jersey interested in studying biomedical computation with a minor in human rights. He was born in Ethiopia, but was able to immigrate to the United States with his family at a very young age through the Diversity Visa Lottery Program. Because of his upbringings, Nahome is especially passionate about Medicine and Education—both as they relate to providing greater accessibly and equity to underrepresented and low-income communities. Making the tough transition from an under resourced town to an academically rigorous private high school elucidated to Nahome that a growth mindset as well as access to robust support systems and resources are vital to academic success. He believes this perspective is particularly important in addressing racial and socio-economic achievement gaps within elite universities and beyond.

On campus, Nahome is involved in the Stanford High School Support Initiative, Ethiopian and Eritrean Student Association, Global Health Student Council and Black Premed Organization. Outside of classes, he works in a research laboratory studying the mechanisms of clinical immunity to malaria. In his free time, he enjoys playing basketball, listening to music and watching anime.
