Subject Tutoring

CTL provides free subject tutoring with peers who are specially trained to help you develop the skills you need to be successful in your classes. Tutors work with you to help you master the skills needed to succeed on your own by coaching rather than providing answers.

The CTL Peer Tutoring program is internationally certified through the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC).

Tutors will:

  • Discuss and break down course concepts & problem sets with you
  • Help you prepare for upcoming exams
  • Brainstorm and strategize studying techniques

Our Sessions

All of our appointments and drop-in sessions are free to Stanford students. For most subjects, you need to make an appointment. But for some, you have the option of stopping by without an appointment. At drop-in sessions, you can come and go as you like. Multiple tutors at each session mean you can often get individual attention when you need it, or just work with others knowing that tutors are nearby to answer questions.

Appointments and drop-in sessions are available in Autumn, Winter, and Spring Quarters, from the Sunday of week two until finals for courses in which you’re enrolled.
