Our language conversation partners (LCPs) are excited to meet you to have unstructured and structured conversations in your target language, practice oral drills, and meet someone new who is fluent in the language. Clara Rose

Hello! My name is Clara Rose. I'm a PhD student in Environmental Engineering. I was born in Ottawa, Canada and grew up mainly in Massachusetts, with some shorter time periods spent living in Nicaragua and Spain. I speak Spanish, French and Arabic and am familiar with multiple dialects of Spanish and Arabic. I view secondary language-learning as a valuable tool that promotes personal and societal growth, as well as cross-cultural tolerance. I'm so excited to assist you in your language journey!

Hi, my name is Ekalan Hou. I am a junior born in Tianjin, China, and raised in Vancouver, Canada, and I am pursuing a double major in English Literature and Art History. I would love to chat with you about your day, your favourite food, sports, films, or TV shows. I look forward to meeting you! 

Joyce Lin

Hello, my name is Joyce Lin, a Chinese conversation partner who enjoys meeting and talking to new people (which I still think is a lingering effect from working for years as a waitress). I grew up in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and am native in Mandarin. Usually, you can catch me watching Taiwanese tv shows, talking to my cat in Mandarin, or listening to Chinese ballads. I look forward to meeting you and having a fun conversation! 

Tianshu Luo

Hey! I am Tianshu from Shanghai, China. I was born in a small city in Henan, and then moved to Shanghai with my family before elementary school. I went to Long Island, New York for high school, and then moved to Cali for undergrad. Besides mandarin, I also speak two dialects in Chinese, Henanese and Shanghainese. I love playing tennis, and cooking. I can't wait to meet and have a great conversation with you! 

Vivian Zhu, Lead LCP

My name is Vivian Zhu, and I'm a Freshman from Sydney, Australia. I was born in Hangzhou, China and have always loved all aspects of the Chinese language, from everyday speech to classical literary works. When I’m not learning a language (I have studied French and Latin, and am now studying Korean), I enjoy reading Chinese novels, binging YouTube videos, taking photos, debating, and talking about politics. I am so excited to get to know you and share our love for Chinese!

Hi! My name is Yeh-Tang, and I’m a rising junior planning to major in comparative literature. Aside from Mandarin, my mother tongue, I have studied English, French, and Spanish. I am also desperate to improve my Taiwanese as I often find it difficult to communicate with elderly countrymen who only speak this beautiful language. I am currently a member of Stanford tapTH@T, Les acteurs de société, and Stanford Taiwanese Student Association.

Hi, my name is Alexa Gold, and I'm a sophomore from New York City.  Having a dad whose one true passion in life is the Montreal Canadians hockey team, I grew up needing some grasp of French so as to understand the French sportscast.  And I fell in love with the language!  I can't wait to meet you, and chat in a truly amazing and beautiful language.

Hello! My name is Angie Lopez, and I’m an upcoming junior studying Art History and Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. I grew up in Miami, Florida where I spoke Spanish at home and began my French studies in first grade! Over the years, I fell in love with French’s global scope and rich literary history. I am so excited to connect with you all, talk about anything and everything, and become part of your language learning journey!

Hi! I'm Betsy, and I studied French in high school before living in Paris during my gap year, where I attended the Sorbonne and studied violin performance. I'm a senior studying economics and film studies, and I'm also the president of the Stanford Asian Women's Alliance. My hot take: Salt & Straw is overrated, and yes I am willing to die on this hill.

Oi! My name is Zac (he/him) and I’m super excited to be one of the French LCPs this year! I am a junior majoring in Political Science, and language is one of my biggest passions! I started learning Portuguese in my first year here at Stanford, and I fell in love with the language almost immediately. I hope you’ll fall in love with it too! Beyond Portuguese, I also speak French, Spanish, Italian, and a little bit of German. On campus, I’m a member of Stanford in Government and am a peer advisor for PoliSci. I can’t wait to get to know you through our conversations!

I am originally from Houston, Texas, but my family made frequent trips to Sweden and Denmark when I was growing up, so I have a natural love for Germanic languages, German in particular! During my free time, I love watching classic films, learning about flags, and building models.

Hello! My name is Giulia and I’m a PhD student in Civil Engineering. I was born in Casale Monferrato, a small town in northern Italy. I speak Italian, English and German. I have been in the United States since 2016 but I always enjoy spending a few weeks of the year in Italy, visiting my family and traveling. In my free time, I love cooking, gardening and hiking. I am excited to meet you and have conversations in Italian!

Hi, my name is Rachel. I was born and raised in Rockbridge County, Virginia, and I am currently in my second year at Stanford as a PhD student in the Classics department with a focus on Latin poetry of the Augustan and Imperial eras. I love languages in general, and Italian has a special place in my heart as one of Latin’s closest modern relatives. I have lived in Italy at various times for a total of more than two years and studied Italian for about 5 years, and now I am excited to share my experience with you as an LCP here at Stanford!

Hi! I'm Kiara, a senior from Atlanta, Georgia studying International Relations with a minor in Japanese. Outside of school, I love reading, my 3 cats, Nintendo games, and bad reality TV. I spent part of my junior year in Japan with Stanford Global Studies and the Kyoto Consortium for Japanese Studies, and I'm happy to talk about my experience with either program!

Maleah Webster

Hey there! I’m Maleah (she/her), a sophomore from the Chicago area who loves languages. I am considering an International Relations major and a Translation Studies minor. Other than Korean, I know French, Spanish, and a tiny bit of Chinese. Outside of classes I spend my time cooking, reading, and watching Korean T.V. Qué tal, me llamo Abraham! I am a rising senior studying Mechanical Engineering. I was born in California although my parents are from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. Growing up in Southern California, I not only learned to speak Spanish at home but also practiced in public quite often. Apart from English and Spanish, I also learned French in high school and completed some related coursework at the university. In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, video games, and soccer. I am open to engage in any conversation topic including but not limited to food, music, culture, hobbies, and sports. Hello! My name is Claudia Bobadilla. I am a coterminal master's student in Latin American Studies. As an undergrad, I studied International Relations with minors in Modern Languages and Data Science. I lived in Sonora, Mexico for the first half of my life but have been in California ever since. In addition to English, I also speak Spanish, French, and Portuguese. This past summer, I also started to learn Nahuatl. In my free time, I love to go outdoors, read, and connect with friends. I'm excited to get to know you and to learn about your language-learning journey!

Daniel Algazi

Hello! My name is Daniel, and I’m from Los Angeles. My family is from Mexico, so I grew up speaking Spanish at home. I love learning languages—I also speak French and am currently learning Mandarin. At Stanford, I’m involved with the Robotics Club and have spent the last few months working on research in the Bioengineering Department. I’m a Mechanical Engineering major, although I’m also interested in linguistics and computer science. Besides academics, I also love doodling and playing music with others (I play the flute and saxophone and I am in an a cappella group on campus). I’m really excited to be able to help you along your language-learning journey!

Being from Puerto Rico, I have been speaking both Spanish and English since I was very young and now I have decided to learn a third language, French. I love to talk about Spanish and Latin American culture, especially the cuisine and literature. I also love to go to the beach and listen to any type of music (I am always open to recommendations). ¡Hola! My name is Estefania Ramirez, and I'm a junior. I'm a native Spanish speaker and have studied Italian for two years. I love traveling so I'm majoring in International Relations with minors in Human Rights and Italian. On campus, I love being involved in Latinx related cultural clubs, some of which include Latinos Unidos, Hermanas, and Ritmo de Stanford. I spent the summer after my freshman year studying abroad in Chile, so if you are interested in doing the same BOSP program I would be happy to talk about my experience with you and even help you brush up on your Spanish!

At Stanford, I'm double majoring in Public Policy and International Relations and love jogging the Dish, playing on the Women’s Club Soccer Team, and doing social impact consulting. Hola, me llamo Roberta; I was born in Monterrey, Mexico and raised in Austin, Texas! I am a psychology major and creative writing minor in the class of 2023. Conversations in Spanish with me tend to focus on horror movies, YA books, R&B music, and students' interests!
